We seldom forget events that have major significance for us. The exceptions are memories of events we view as catastrophic...such as tragic accidents, war and sexual abuse. Children have few choices for escaping abusive situations. Forgetting becomes a survival mechanism. Yoga breathing is a powerful natural means by which to bring forgotten trauma memory up to the level of consciousness. These breathing rhythms activate the mind to bring repressed emotion up from the subconscious. When emotions come up their associated picture memories usually come with them and, with this, memory is uncovered. |
