Factors That Contribute To Post-Partum Depression

Postpartum depression is based in biochemistry and suppressed emotions. Both are energies located in the body and each responds to holistic healing methods.

A relatively unknown factor that contributes to postpartum depression is emotional reactivation, commonly referred to as having your buttons pressed...where subconscious emotion suddenly comes up and whacks the psyche. Consider that where PPD is concerned, mother’s buttons are getting pressed to the extent of creating depression.

How It Works
The psyche exists in the body. The entrie body is the mind, the organ of memory. Thus, the psyche's environment includes the mind's memory contents. The psyche is subjected to all memory in the mind, including suppressed emotion.

Memory search...find...and retrieval are based on a search parameter...a cue to the mind. Initiated by a cue, the mind can retrieve suppressed emotion up to the level of consciousness, subjecting the psyche to emotional battering. This is emotional reactivation...and it does contribute to depression.

Giving birth is where mother certainly can be subjected to emotional reactivation. Her buttons can be pressed by any number of factors. Four factors are thus far apparent. There may be others but it is for mothers to examine the entire birthing process to determine what more there may be.

The Birth Process Itself Is A Cue
The entire process of giving birth, which is a compelling event for any mother, is a cue to her mind. Mother’s mind directly receives this powerful cue since her body, an integral part of the birth process, is her mind.

Her mind will match this comprehensive birth cue to any memory she has that is at all similar to the process of giving birth. Thus, we must expect that a match will be made upon the subconscious memory of her own birth.

If mother experienced any emotional trauma when she was born—and most of us had some birth trauma—then the painful emotion of that event will be brought up to whack her consciousness, contributing to depression.

The Newborn Child Is A Cue
As the infant grows in the womb a loving bond is created between mother and child. Well aware of each other, they become an integrated loving couple. Giving birth to the child brings about a physical separation of the two.

When mother gives birth to the child—when it physically leaves her body—a loved one has left her. That is an automatic cue to her mind. The mind will match the notion of “my loved one leaves me” to any memory she has of a loved one leaving her.

If she had experienced any childhood trauma of loss of love, of rejection, or of abandonment—and most of us have some of that—the cue will be matched upon it and the pain of that trauma will come up to whack her consciousness, contributing greatly to depression.

It is known that women with PPD often have feelings of guilt, anxiety, worthlessness and hopelessness. A child that is unloved or abandoned will experience all of these feelings intensely, and they will get stored at the subconscious level, waiting to be reactivated in adulthood by a similar event.

Physical Exposure Is A Cue
Giving birth totally exposes mom’s pelvic area and, with this, two buttons can get pressed...one concerns mom’s sense of modesty and the other concerns any history of sexual abuse.

Even if men are not in attendance, and more-so if they are, this necessary physical exposure makes mom super-vulnerable. Whereas she cannot avoid the exposure, her sense of modesty may be dishonored, creating shameful feelings. Feelings of shame in the present are cues that match onto all suppressed shame in her past, and the pain associated with it will come up to whack her.

The unavoidable physical exposure to give birth forcefully implies, “You will expose yourself, like it or not!” This is a cue that can match onto any memory of sexual abuse. There is a high incidence of such abuse in our society, especially during childhood. Its painful emotion will be reactivated, greatly contributing to PPD.

Hormones Contribute
Since mother will not comprehend the emotional reactivation that is stressing and depressing her, this mystery will be very upsetting to her and, combined with the rest, it can stress her glands which will generate an inordinate amount of hormones.

This throws her body chemistry out of balance contributing heavily to mental depression. Thus far, it is shown that two energies contribute to postpartum depression…the energies of suppressed emotions and the energies of compromised body chemistry. But, there is more.

Birthing Surgery Contributes
Surgery at any time, to include birth surgery, is physical trauma that contributes to depression by altering body chemistry. Medications that follow surgery further compromise the body's chemistry contributing to depresion.

The Human Energy Body
The human energy body is the electro-magnetic field that surrounds each of us. Surgery cuts into the energy body as well as the physical body. This contributes heavily to depression. Medicine is long overdue for recognizing the human energy body. It is healed with energy therapies such as quantum-plus, pranic healing, polarity therapy and reiki.

The regimen that prevents PPD is the one that also will heal it. Nutrition is part of it and emotional resolution the other.

Mega-Vitamin Therapy
Mother’s body chemistry is brought into balance with nutritious food supplemented with high levels of vitamins and minerals. This will correct her body chemistry and heal depression in just a few weeks. Locate a doctor that heals with mega-vitamin therapy, also called ortho-molecular medicine.

While healing takes place the pain of depression can be diminished with holistic remedies such as St. John’s wort, l-tryptophane and natural products such as Avea. A product called EmpowerPlus is found on truehope.com.

Yoga Breath Therapy
Healing the suppressed emotions that were reactivated is the next step. The services of a psychotherapist are not required since nothing is amiss with the psyche…emotions are lodged in the body and must be dislodged from there. This is effectively accomplished with yoga breathing.

Between nutrition and yoga breathing, postpartum depression can be healed.
